Bahram’s story

Despite persecution and severe health problems, Bahram was initially refused asylum in the UK.

Bahram is a single man from Iran, and had claimed asylum when he arrived in the UK. His asylum claim had been refused. However, he was subsequently granted Discretionary Leave to Remain for three years due to his debilitating mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder, severe anxiety, self-harm and psychotic episodes.

When Bahram first came to see us, his discretionary leave was due to expire in ten days and he needed to renew it urgently. We were able to gather the necessary evidence and submit his application in time, so preserving his immigration status and rights in the UK while his application is considered.

Without our assistance Bahram, who has been recognised by the Home Office as having a high level of vulnerability, would have lost his status in the UK and become an illegal overstayer, with no rights and no access to the financial and medical support he relies on. Today he still has a chance to escape from the persecution he suffered in Iran.
