Volunteer – pro bono

Bristol Law Centre has an outstanding reputation for pro bono work and we are proud to be working in partnership with law firms across the city to deliver free legal advice clinics. Most of our volunteers stay with us for many years showing how committed they are to helping clients. Several of our volunteers’ efforts have been recognised at the Bristol Law Society Awards including winning Bristol Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in 2017, 2018 and 2022, and shortlisted for the same title in 2019!

We are founding members of the Bristol Pro Bono Group which brings together law firms, charity legal advice services and universities to collaborate and make a difference to local communities.

Our pro-bono clinics offer invaluable one-off advice for people on family and employment law issues, as well as civil litigation. Many of those accessing our clinics are litigants in person, who we can guide and prepare as they go through the overwhelming experience of facing court proceedings alone.

All volunteers are solicitors, barristers or chartered legal executives with at least 3 years PQE. Any trainees assisting with advice sessions are supervised by senior colleagues.

We are always interested in hearing from prospective volunteer lawyers who have experience in any area of social welfare law. To discuss further, please contact our Development Manager – evie@bristollawcentre.org.uk
