Tax Efficient Giving
You may be eligible to receive a reduction in inheritance tax when leaving a gift in your will to charitable causes like Bristol Law Centre. Leaving a gift in your will to charity is completely free from inheritance tax, which means a bequest to the law centre will be deducted from the value of the estate before any tax liability is calculated.
We strongly advise you consult a solicitor when making or revising your will, to ensure it reflects your wishes and is legally valid.
To leave the law centre a gift, you will need to know our charity details, which are:
2 Hide Market, West St, Bristol BS2 0BH
Registered Charity No. 1059022
Below is a guide to the text you would need to insert in your will.
“I give to Bristol Law Centre, registered charity number 1059022. 2 Hide Market, West St, Bristol BS2 0BH the sum of £X, free of inheritance tax, for its general charitable purposes.”
If you’re worried that time will erode the value of your gift, please ask your solicitor for advice on how you might arrange it to keep pace with inflation.
If you have already made your will and would now like to include a gift to Bristol Law Centre, you can complete a codicil form – click here to download. A codicil is a supplement to a will and allows you to amend your existing will without drawing up a new one.
