Oliver Lewis (Chair)

Oliver is a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, London. He practises in the fields of mental health, Court of Protection cases, inquests and international human rights law. He has a PhD in international human rights law and holds a part-time position as Professor of Law and Social Justice at the University of Leeds where he teaches disability law and global human rights advocacy. Oliver was called to the Bar in 2000 and spent sixteen years as Legal Director, then Executive Director, of the Mental Disability Advocacy Centre (recently rebranded to ‘Validity’), an NGO based in Budapest that works for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues in Europe and Africa.
