Roger was MP for Kingswood, Bristol from 1992 to 2010. His main interests were economic and social policy, the arms trade and disability rights, the subject of a number of bills he promoted. His concern was not only with legislation, but also with its enforcement. Many of his constituents would have been denied their legal rights without advice and support from Bristol Law Centre.
Previously, Roger lectured in economics at the Universities of Sussex, Papua New Guinea and Bristol and served for 12 years on the former Avon County Council, including as Deputy Leader and Leader of the Labour Group. Roger is also a trustee of Disability Rights UK and has served on the boards of a number of other not-for-profit organisations, both local and national.
