Volunteering at Avon & Bristol Law Centre has proved to be a most rewarding and enjoyable experience. Just a few hours of my time, spent once a month at the Centre helps provide a much needed service to many vulnerable people requiring family law advice.
A typical session will see me advising on eligibility for public funding, answering questions regarding children matters, relationship breakdown and on occasions domestic violence issues. In addition, clients seek referrals to support agencies and organisations who can assist them further. The Virtual Law Clinic has enabled me to assist those people further afield who are unable to travel to the Bristol Law Centre.
It is clear that the demand for initial advice is great, particularly given the vastly reduced availability of public funding in family matters. I would encourage any family lawyer who has the capacity and inclination to volunteer to make contact with the Centre. You won’t regret it!
