Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Winners 2026

We are proud to announce that Bristol Law Centre won Legal Aid Firm/Not For Profit Agency 2026, at the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year (LALY) Awards on July 6th, in London.

Now into their 24th year, the LALY awards are organised by Legal Aid Practitioners Group (LAPG), on a non-profit basis, to celebrate lawyers at the social justice coalface.

Chris Minnoch, Chief Executive Officer at Legal Aid Practitioners Group (LAPG), had this to say to Bristol Law Centre:

“Our hearty congratulations to BLC on winning the 2026 Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year award for Legal Aid Firm/Not-for-Profit Agency. Friday’s event was a wonderful occasion that captured the spirit of the legal aid sector and we’re delighted that you and your team were recognised for your outstanding work.”

Miriam Bishop, Associate at Bevan Brittan LLP, who offer pro bono legal expertise in our telephone clinics, also offered her congratulations:

“I just wanted to send a huge congratulations for your LALY award. It’s a phenomenal achievement and thoroughly deserved,” she said.

LAPG say:

“Now into their 24th year, the awards are unique and distinct because the lawyers celebrated are unlike any others across the entire legal profession. Legal aid tends to attract those who are not just exceptional lawyers but exceptionally courageous and compassionate human beings.”

Olivia Crowther, Managing Director and Senior Solicitor, Southern England Law Centre:

“I want to congratulate you and your team for your LALY award. Really well done!”

The top award – for Outstanding Achievement – went to Hillsborough Law Now, a coalition which has been the driving force behind legislation to bring about a sea change in public accountability following disasters.

Others who were celebrated included a lawyer acting for Palestinian rights protesters; a family solicitor doing groundbreaking work with Gypsies and Travellers; and a defence lawyer challenging music video evidence in criminal trials.
