I am an employment law solicitor with Temple Bright and have been volunteering with Bristol Law Centre since 2018. I undertake a monthly, two hour clinic on Tuesdays and usually do this over the phone from home.
I am pleased to be able to contribute to such an important service within the community. I care about justice and employees who have been treated unfairly are often left in a really difficult position if they cannot afford to pay for legal advice.
The Law Centre provides me with all of the background information/documents which I will read before I speak to the client and this means that I am usually able to provide some constructive advice. I am very familiar with employment tribunal procedure from my private practice work, but it can be a daunting and confusing experience for a litigant in person. I can help clients by explaining the process and can give them an idea of what to expect. I can also provide practical advice on the pro’s and con’s of settling cases.
I enjoy the variety of the calls, I speak to all types of people with all sorts of employment law problems. It definitely makes me a better lawyer because my advice has to be well structured and to the point because I have a limited amount of time to cover a lot!
It makes me feel as though I have done some good and helped people who need it the most.
It’s really straightforward to donate, either monthly or as a one off amount.
