Holly

I joined Bristol Law Centre in September 2023, after having worked in a general litigation team in private practice for nearly 3 years. Whilst private practice provided me with valuable skills to be able to deal with a vast and complex caseload quickly, I knew that something was missing for me in this work. I came from a background of advising refugees and asylum seekers in Calais during my time at SOAS and working with victims of domestic abuse, so I knew that what was lacking in private practice was a feeling of purpose and having a positive impact on how I want the world to look.

Cue Bristol Law Centre. A charity that are well known throughout the Southwest for their meaningful and compassionate work with vulnerable communities. I knew immediately that this was exactly the place I was meant to be and the work, which involves advising clients as to their rights across housing law, is incredibly important and rewarding. Bristol Law Centre are also one of the few providers of Legal Aid funding which means that we can take on the most vulnerable cases. I am proud to be part of such a forward thinking and focused team, whose primary goal is to offer a safe space for clients to be heard, and to defend their rights against injustice.

BLC is a mindful and responsive charity that truly cares about its employees and clients. BLC provides its employees with autonomy to shape how teams operate and I felt instantly valued and respected. I am looking forward to developing my skills in the housing sector as well as offering assistance to those in need.
